He shook his head, amused, "Heh. Weh beh silly."

"Kindred. Tryin'teh beh loners. Lost immortals."

"Bein'immortals means dey beh more scared ah death."

"I know I am." She admitted.

"Heh. Ah still planned on greetin'de Sun... but sumone didn't want meh too." he smiled at her.

"Scared of being without you too." She said softly.

He took an unneeded breath, "Ah know. 'Swhy ah'm'ere."

"Well, ah only got dis 'ere cause ah ya."

She reached out to gently touch his cheek. "I'm glad you stayed."

"Toldja ah would. Pack's gotta trust pack." he did not shy away from the touch. In fact, his hand went atop hers.

She closed her eyes, sighing softly.

"We cannot control de Fates, Duckie. Toutatis calls, weh listen. Nature lives ahn dies. Can't change nuttin'but us. Maybeh ya juss need teh let go. If ya fall, ah'll catch ya. If ya need teh cry, ah'll hold ya. Trust beh important."

"I trust you Mat." The tears came then. Screw what anyone said, they came on their own, and sometimes she needed to cry. Today it was out of frustration. She'd screwed up.

It was not the first time he had held her while she cried. It would likely not be the last. The thick arms picked up the small waif, cradling her with the gentle, endless strength she had taught him to have.

"Ah truss ya too, Duckie. Wid mah life, mah blood."

"Oui, mais, if ya didn't try, ya'd regret it, n'est pas?"

He nodded. "Ah 'gree. Don't always work out de best, but, at leastcha know."

She sighed softly. "I gotta stop hoping for the best."

That made him frown. "Non. Ah don't tink ya do, since it's a part ah ya."
