Day three (ast cl4p-tp) - Warehouse 13

13 showed up again, this time with several painters tarps, a box of apples and a big mega pack of cheese sticks. And more grape juice. He looked around to see what was happening with the place and then went to the door and knocked.

The yard was much more organized...and yet not. These kids were good. He couldn't even tell which piles of stuff were blinds, and which were just piles. But her herd the same woodpecker wrapping on the side of the warehouse as he had the night before, but this time from another direction, as he reached the door and knocked. Carly was the one to open the door this time.

"Hey."

He smiled.

"Hey. The place is looking good. You too. Got more stuff."

In the last three days he had smiled more than he had in his life.

She opened the door wider.

"Come on in. And yeah, we work fast. Kinda have to, when you live like we do."

He nodded and walked in with her.

"I understand that. No time to put things off. Ya have to cover your tracks. Feeling better?"

She nodded.

"Thanks for making me sleep. I needed it."

"You did. You are burning both ends of the candle. May sure you eat too. Are you getting as much as they younger kids? Is the food situation worse that you hinted? We can do a food run you know. That bag is there for a reason."

She smiled.

"Now that we have power, the fridge works. Yeah, we should go on a food run."

He nodded and then held up his load.

"Talking about that, fruit, juice and cheese. Oh and I was thinking. Instead of boards, these tarps will stop anything thrown that a board will and they are more easily moveable. And easier to put up. So... how about we hand off the stuff i brought and go for a food run, unless you think it better we stay here."

"Let's go on a food run. The kids can take the stuff and make sure things are taken care of."

He nodded, looking like he thought the idea would be fun.

"Sounds good. You ready? Let's go. Let someone know and we are out of here."

She grabbed one of the children.

"Hey, Carl, go get the other's fed. Then get these tarps to the windows we need to be able to look out of. Thirteen and I will hang them when we get back."

He smiled.

"well thats one way to get it done. Let's go."

He walked with her to the door nad waited till she is ready, then ducking out and heading for the fence. Till they got out he was going quiet. They could talk as soon as they were clear.

She followed, silent as a mouse. There was no reason to talk right now. But he knew the area, so she let him lead.

He led her past the manfuacturing but not into the city, instead staying in the factory area and heading to a large processing center. There was lights in the front and smoke coming out of the stack even now. He took her toward the back, finding a hiding place to talk for a moment.

"Piggly Wigglys distribution center. Why hit mom and pop when we can get food they wont miss. So, what do we want, specifically?"

She smiled.

"We need the basics. We don't have any of that."

He nodded.

"eggs, milk, bread, cheese, cereals. Meat, say sandwich stuff. best if we get the big stuff.. lets hold off of the cleaning stuff and the toilet paper.. i know better places to get it. Hmm, lets get the heavy stuff and stow it out here, then go back in for veggies and fruits. hmm peanut butter and jelly would be good. what else do you think we should be looking for?"

Her eyes lit up.

"We need potatoes. We can grow those, and sustain it ourselves easily."

He raised his eyes.

"Potatos? for that doent you need seed potatos? Hmm, are you thinking of setting up a garden on the roof? In the center so no one will see except in a helicopter?"

She nodded.

"That's a good long term plan. Or we could set up grow lights in one of the rooms."

He nodded.

"One of the office rooms might be perfect for that. I dont know much about indoor gardening.. or any kind of gardening."

She chuckled.

"That's what I have a library card for. I can borrow the books I need to learn from."

He nodded.

"They got computers too. So, how many of the kids can read?"

His voice was a little soft and at the same time.. seemed a little.. intense on hte subject.

She looked at him with a raised eyebrow.

"At most, their a reading level behind. Even the littlest can read a bit."
