Updating (Mat) - U.S.S. Freedom

She showed before she hit up the Regency.  It was the night after Rai had told her about the three days.  She appeared inside, as was her typical mode of travel these day.

He was dressed as, well, he always was. As she had seen him first thing that night. As she would see whenever she slept next to him. He moved like the Sea, but in the end, he remained the same - boundless as the waters that covered the Earth. Rather than working on the Boat itself, it seemed he was practicing some of the gifts of the Spirits - a block of charred wood was held between his fingers, the flames newly blinked out as he sensed someone appear. The flesh of the wood pealed away, crumbling, its carbon spent for the reaction, becoming nothing more than ash that floated down innocently upon the galley floor.

"Hey." She said, eyeing what he was doing. "Not interrupting am I?"

"I could try it on your clothes next." his eyes, normally jade or gray, were red currently. Not the animalistic, bestial red: but the color of dancing flames. His body language had shifted, become more alive, more passionate. More animated. As if the flames of life burned within him. But even he did not expect that to leave his mouth, for it sounded like a come on line.

The shock doused the red in his eyes, cooled them, back to their normal jade. And he just.. stared at her, afraid he had offended her.

She actually smiled, and laughed, though certainly not at him. "I almost wish I could have recoded that."

He made a face, scratching the back of his neck. Cleared his throat. "I. Um. Sorry. Side effect, I think."

"It's okay." She laughed.

"Carnival's here in 2 days."

He looked confused, "But wasn't it already here? I visited it already, examined the animals. They all seemed happy and content." as he dust himself off.

"I wasn't looking for supernaturals - just the animals."

He frowned, looking confused. "Huh?"

"Oh. Well. I guess I just shouldn't go to the Carnival then." he said with a chuckle.

"All you had to do was ask." thankfully, or unthankfully, the fiery passion had died off. Else he might have asked her to give him incentive to stay home. Then not understand what his own words hinted at.

"I...Please don't go there." Yes, she actually asked.

He was confused - the emotion written all over his features, but he just nodded.

She suddenly wrapped her arms around him, clinging to him.

Confused Mat was even more confused (which was rather impressive). So, really, all he could do is try to comfort her. "If I said something wrong, I'm sorry... I... " he couldn't even get more than that out, as he worried about her, a hand stroking her short her.

"I just don't want to lose you again."

Still confused, he tried to pull her face back so he could look at her. "Why do you think you'd lose me?"

"And you have told me not to go." so logically, he would not. It seemed simple enough.
